The Stonewall Democrats of San Luis Obispo County would like to express its surprise and gratitude for the US Supreme Court’s decision on June 16, acknowledging Title VII employment protections for LGBT people. The 6-3 decision was strong and unexpected, considering the hyper-conservative bent of the current court. This good news however remains overshadowed by the systematic actions of the Trump administration to limit our human rights. Most recently was the cutting off of trans healthcare access declared on the anniversary of the PULSE massacre, which added insult to injury, while the murders of black trans women are continuing at a fast clip with total impunity.

In these challenging times, there is anxiety in the air on many fronts. We face the isolation and fear of the COVID-19 pandemic, and at the same time feel angry and join the protests for Black Lives Matter in heartfelt solidarity. We ask the community to please use this energy by being sure to exercise its right to vote. The presidential election is crucial to all our lives this year, and voting by mail is offered to everyone in California. You can register online: https://registertovote.ca.gov/, if you would like to help get out the vote see the http://czi.34f.myftpupload.com website, or look us up at https://www.facebook.com/Stonewall.SLO
