The Latest Insight

Everything changed in the blink of an eye.

Before President Biden’s historic withdrawal from the race for the White House, the state of the campaign and our emotions surrounding it were uncertain, moribund, morose.

Now, we have a magnetic new candidate brimming with confidence and vitality, bolstered by a multi-generational, multi-cultural legion of supporters from coast to coast.

All of us are grateful for the wisdom and lifelong service of Joe Biden. We appreciate the incredible job he’s done as our president. History will judge him kindly for putting our country above himself. Would that every political leader have such grace and humility.

Today, electricity is in the air. Excitement abounds. Hope is alive! Thank you, Joe Biden. Thank you, Kamala Harris.

In the week following the political earthquake that shook the world, the SLOCDP received nearly 100 volunteer requests – more than we've ever seen in such a short period of time.

We're working hard to process those generous offers of help and get them connected with local campaigns. Stay tuned, we’re going places.

Let’s not stop now! Please consider signing up here: https://www.slocdp.org/volunteer.

With your help, we’re going to win, and it seems the MAGAs and Moms for Liberty types know it. Which explains why they’re getting weirder, wilder, more frantic and more militant.

They sense the excitement the Harris campaign is generating. It resonates and radiates everywhere. We’re on offense and it feels great. Everyone, it seems, is all in.

That said, we must realize the down-ballot races – at the national, state and local level right here in SLO County – are where we stop MAGA and Moms for Liberty root and branch. Their culture of menace, hate, bigotry and fear festers locally and provides energy to the overall MAGA movement that supports Trump and Project 2025.

Let’s stop it here – in SLO County. Let’s elect local candidates for city council, school boards and special districts who will promote decency and goodwill, oppose extremism and ill will, and support good government, not work to undermine it.

We have at least 13 candidates running for local office, with more to come by the Aug. 9 filing deadline. If you want to help Kamala win, the best way to do that is by helping the SLOCDP defend our local democracy from MAGA and Moms for Liberty extremists here at home.

Thanks.
